Below is a list of things you should consider as you prepare for your move by Cool Springs Relocation Movers Brentwood TN. However, the most important thing to do in preparation is left off the list and that is to contact Cool Springs Relocation moving company for a FREE estimate on how we can make it a no hassle moving experience.
Pack a “carry on” size bag with essentials so you can have an extra set of clothes ect. Just in case.
Place all items that you are transporting Ex. Bags Meds, in one empty location of the home so the crew will not pack and load the items on the shipment.
Before arrival have all keys, passports, jewelry, medications, checkbook, credit cards placed away so the crew will not pack and load in the shipment.
Forward mail, Schedule disconnects times for cable, utilities, phone so you don’t have to pay after you are no longer in your home.
If refrigerator is being moved. 24hrs before the move clean out fridge and defrost if so no water leaks in the truck.
Consider cleaning out closets and garage& old items you don’t want to have at your new home so you don’t have to move it.
Leave brooms and cleaning supplies for last or consider hiring cleaning crew for your old home or new home.
Empty drawers of breakables, spillages, items not recommended for inclusion in your shipment (prohibited items) and anything that would puncture or damage other items. However, blankets, sweaters, lingerie, bath towels and similar soft, lightweight goods may be left in drawers.
All boxes should be labeled with your name, content and room location to which each carton should be delivered at destination on the top side so crew can read location when boxes are placed on dollies.
Pack similar items together. For example, do not pack a delicate china figurine in the same box with cast-iron frying pans. It could get ugly make sure that the plates are packed faced on there side not face down because any amount of pressure could crack the plates. Do not stack any heavy items below or above the plates.
Keep all parts or pairs of things together. For example, curtain rod hangers, mirror bolts and other small hardware items should be placed in plastic or cloth bags and taped or tied securely to the article to which they belong. For example, mirror bracket hardware should be attached to the dresser, bed frame hardware should be attached to the bed frame, etc. (Note: most items should be disassembled by your mover and they will ensure that the hardware remains in an obvious spot. Make sure to discuss.)
Wind electrical cords and if possible, fasten them to the piece with tape. Dangling cords can present a very hazardous obstacle. (Note: your mover should take care of most of these items.)
Wrap items individually in clean paper (tissue paper, newsprint, etc.) for fine china, crystal and delicate items.
Place a two- or three-inch layer of crushed paper in the bottom of a carton for cushioning.
Build up in layers, with heaviest things on the bottom, medium weight next and lightest on top.
As each layer is completed, fill in empty spaces firmly with crushed paper and add more crushed paper to make a level base for the next layer, or use sheets of cardboard cut from cartons as dividers.
Cushion well with crushed paper. Alternatively, this is a great spot to stuff towels, linens, etc.
The more fragile the item, the more cushioning needed. Be sure no sharp points, edges or rims are lift uncovered.
Avoid overloading cartons, but strive for a firm pack that will prevent items from shifting. This is key.
The top of the box should close easily without force, but should not bend inward.
Seal cartons tightly with tape except for those containing items listed on a High-Value Inventory form. These must be left open for the van operator’s inspection.
As you finish with each carton, list the contents on the side of the carton (for easy viewing while cartons are stacked) and in a special notebook. You might want to number and/or code the cartons as well.
Tape a sign on the door of each room at destination corresponding to the carton labels so movers can get the cartons into the proper rooms quickly.
Put a special mark on cartons you want to unpack first at destination.
